🌿 Ficus microcarpa Ginseng bonsai – Pot size 9 | The desk Zen master – Average maintenance
A gnarled "root body" with a mini-crowned crown that brings zen to any workspace. Tough enough for beginners, yet captivating enough for tinkerers: you can prune, shape, and subtly train it. You provide light, rhythm, and a sip every now and then—it delivers focus vibes.
✨ Appearance:
A thickened, sculptural rootstock (ginseng look) with glossy oval leaves. Pot size 9 (± 9 cm) = compact bonsai size (± 15–25 cm tall) that retains its shape well.
☀️ Location:
Bright, indirect light; 1–2 hours of soft morning sun is fine. Avoid hot midday sun behind glass and cold drafts. It prefers a fixed location (no weekly moving).
💧 Water:
Drink—pause—drink: Let 2–3 cm of the topsoil dry out. Better a little too dry than soaking wet (root rot!). Winter: less often. Use a pot with good drainage (very important).
🐾 Pet meter:
Slightly toxic (milky sap/latex can irritate). Keep out of reach of nibbling pets.
🧽 Maintenance:
– Prune twigs to 2–3 leaf pairs for dense branching (spring/autumn light).
– Feed once a month during the growing season (½ dose).
– Shaping can be done with soft bonsai wire (leave in place for max. 6–8 weeks; check constriction).
– Repot every 1–2 years in spring: bonsai mix (akadama/pumice/lava) or potting soil + coarse perlite + a little bark.
✨ Details:
Leaf drop after moving or a cold breeze = normal; it will recover with a stable light and watering regime. Yellow leaves? Often too wet or too little light. White spots? Usually lime—remove with lukewarm water.
🚚 Shipping:
Secured in a bonsai-proof manner; crown and trunk protected. Acclimatize for 7–10 days after arrival (do not prune or repot immediately). Then: zen on, productivity increased.
